Seems like dogs start barking right before an earthquake hits. Can they hear it coming, or what?
I mean, the tectonic plates around the world are always under pressure until enough builds to break them loose (thus the earthquake), so why don’t huge earthquakes shake things up enough to “help” quakes break loose all over?
I know. Go ahead. Laugh at my simplistic views of plate tectonics and my obvious lack of knowledge thereof. It’s OK. I just want to hear what people say.
The Moon is mentioned in the Bible 41 times, 32 times in the Old Testament and nine times in the New Testament. The Moon is mentioned in the Noble Quran 25 times.
In the Bible, Revelation 6:12, 8:12 and 21:23 say: 1) there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black and the whole moon became like blood, 2) and the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars and 3) the city has no need of the sun to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it and its lamp is the Lamb (respectively).
In the Quran, verse 7:54 says that that the sun, the moon, and the stars are compelled to Allah’s order. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

The sun, the moon, and the stars are compelled to his order. His is the creation, His is the command. Blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
SHAKIR: surely your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six periods of time, and he is firm in power; he throws the veil of night over the day, which it pursues incessantly; and (he created) the sun and the moon and the stars, made subservient by his command; surely his is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.
PICKTHAL: lo! The meaning of the verse:
Surely your Lord is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six days. Had He willed He could have created them in an instant; but the reason for His not having done so is that He wanted to teach His creatures to be circumspect.
Then presided upon the Throne, a presiding befitting of Him
He cloaks the night with the day, that is, He covers each one with the other: each following the other in swift pursuit.
And the sun and the moon and the stars have been made subservient; have been subdued, by His command, by His power.
Verily, His is, all, creation and the command, in its entirety.
Blessed, magnified, be Allah, the Lord, and the Master of the Worlds!
In other words, Allah has made the sun and the moon and the stars subservient by His command, by His leave.
His verily is all creation, the creation of the heavens and the earth
His verily is the commandment i.e. the judgment of people on the Day of Judgment.
Blessed be Allah, the Possessor of grace;
It is also said that this means: elevated is Allah; far exalted is Allah, the Lord of the Worlds!
He is the Master and Disposer of the Worlds.

The big difference in the Taiwan is that the earthquake was located on land and not at sea. I am writing this just an hour after it hit so the damage report is almost non existent currently- Wednesday evening.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or deaths but some damage has occurred to buildings and major bridges, and power was cut off near the epicenter. The quake struck in a mountainous region about 25 miles northwest of Taitung, on the southeast coast, and 40 miles east of Tainan and Kaohsiung on the southwest coast.
So, what’s next? Can a San Andreas one be too far behind?
The region, which includes Maolin National Scenic Area, is recovering from a direct hit by Typhoon Morakot that killed hundreds in August. The typhoon dumped more than two feet of rain, causing serious mudslides in the south, including one that buried the village of Shiao Lin under 50 feet of mud. The quake was followed by several aftershocks, the largest reaching 4.8. The initial 6.4 quake rumbled to the surface from 14 miles deep.
The Taiwan Ministry of Interior and the National Fire Agency said electricity was cut off near the epicenter but had no further information.
Earthquakes are not uncommon in the 13,892-square-mile island — about the size of the U.S. states of Maryland and Delaware combined — which sits across the juncture of the Eurasian and Philippine tectonic plates. A 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck the same general region in December. The island took a double hit on December 26, 2006, when earthquakes of 7.1 and 6.9 magnitude hit eight minutes apart.
The largest recorded quake to strike Taiwan was an 8.0-magnitude quake in 1920, but the worst earthquake disaster stemmed from a 7.1-magnitude quake in 1935 that killed more than 3,200 people — followed by a 6.5-magnitude quake that killed more than 2,700 people three months later. Talk about lightning striking twice.
